Q: Question, I recent purchased new Pro Grid D.E. 48 SQ. ft filter, how much DE would I use considering this is brand new and how much would I use after back flushing the old DE out. Thanks

A:

Hi, your filter requires 6 lbs of DE. It will need this amount after backwash as well. If pressure does not fall to original pressure reading after initial precoating it may be time to clean the grids.

Q: I have a DE4820 and would really like to step away from using DE. I am retired and on a budget. I was wondering if I can use the DE4820 cannister for cartridge filteration. Obviously the bottom stand and top manifold as well as inlet/outlet needs changing. Is this something that is possible to do?

Hi, this can be done, but you would most likely find that the cost to change the entire contents of the inside fo the filter is more than the cost of a new cartridge filter.

Q: Hello, I replaced my Hayward DE grids with grids from Pool Pure (via Amazon) in June 2024. My pressure climbs up usually a week after completely cleaning everything (even taking apart each grid and cleaning). Pressure is perfect for about a week, then it climbs up. I'll backwash and it will go down, then creep back up. Do you think this is due to inferior grids? Is there really a difference between grid products? Pool company doesn't believe anything is wrong with the pool. I'd like some assurance/opinion before spending more on new grids. Thank you!

Hi, this could be a problem with the grids, but if you are just starting your pool up for the season it could just be that the filter is catching excessive debris as it cleans up after the winter. We couldn't comment on another company's grids...
