Q: What is the difference between the W3HP50HA2 and the HP50HA2?

The W3 version is available online and comes with a 1 year parts only warranty. The non W3 version can only be purchased through a Hayward Authorized Retail Store, and comes with a 3 years parts 1 year labor warranty.

Q: does this have to be wired into the time clock with the pool motor so they run at the same same time?

Hi, the heat pump has an internal flow switch that will only allow it to operate when the pool pump is running. It should be wired to its own dedicated circuit.

Hi, no that would not be advisable as the condensate that is produced as a byproduct of the heating cycle drains from under the heat pump.
