Q: I recently installed the Heat Pro 140k so this is my first season operating the heat pump. I understand that the heat pump shouldn’t be allowed to sit idle with no circulation for extended periods of time but in the current summer conditions with the heat pump not being called on to operate because outside conditions are warm enough to keep the pool water temperature above set point is it ok to let water circulate through the heat pump for maybe weeks at a time while the heat pump is not being called on to run? Or, should I bypass the heat pump and drain until needed again in the fall? Hope this makes sense.

A:
Hi, your heat pump is designed to have water circulating through it any time the pool pump is running. No need to bypass it when not in use.

Q: Can this pump be used on a 15x30 above ground salt water pool (48 inch water depth)? I know this model is discontinued, but someone is looking to give this heater to us and wondering if it's compatible with our pool. I also know this model might be excessive for our pool size, but just wondering if compatible. Thank you!

A:
Hi, if your pump/filter system is capable of pushing a minimum of 40 gpm water through the heat pump, and you have a dedicated 50 amp 240 volt circuit available for the heat pump it will work for your pool. You may need to have a service company come...

Q: The unit has a molded “plastic” drain pan underneath it. Any problems with running a 1” drain line from the pan to get condensate away from the unit, pad, and foot traffic?

A:
Hi, you would have to set the heat pump in some sort of drain pan. It has several openings in the base pan for drainage.

Q: Hi, Is this model Salt Water resistant?? How many breakers are required to operate this model. Hayward HeatPro Heat Pump, 140,000 BTU HP21404T

A:
Hi, our heat pumps are designed to hold up well in coastal environments, but exposure to salt air will eventually cause corrosion. It requires a single 240 volt 50 amp breaker.

Q: I have an HP21404T in my new build pool and spa in Southern California. The heater does a fine job heating the spa, however, even on a 75 degree day the heater will not provide other than minimal heat to the pool ( for example it heats starting at 8 am from 62 degrees to 70 around noon and then just stop sheating). The Hayward rep is stating that we shouldn’t expect the heater to work other than on hot summer days. Feeling this can’t be right. Any ideas if this is in fact fixable?

A:
Hi, someone from our Technical Service Department will contact you via email.

Q: Can I leave a HP21404T heater on if the pool pump is not running? I know that it will show "FLO" on the display, but will it hurt the heater?

A:
Hi, yes you can! The heat pump will not operate unless the pump is running, so no harm will come to it if you leave it on.
